Wind turbines use the kinetic energy of wind to generate electricity. It is one of the renewable energy sources with the lowest environmental impact.
EDC Burgos Wind Power Corporation (EBWPC), a subsidiary of EDC, is the owner and operator of the 150-MW Burgos Wind Project in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. The Philippines’s largest wind power project, it occupies a 600-hectare site covering three barangays; namely Saoit, Poblacion, and Nagsurot, in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. The project consists of 50 large scale Vestas V90 3-MW wind turbines, and a 115-kV transmission line connecting the wind farm from Burgos substation to the Laoag substation, as well as the expansion of the switchyard/substations.
Since it has been issued a certificate of compliance from the Energy Regulatory Commission, it has been entitled to a Feed-in-Tarrif rate of PHP 8.53/kWh for a period of 20 years starting from November 11, 2014 to November 10, 2034.
